Mercy Medical Angels

Mercy Medical Angels

Mercy Medical Angels is a Virginia-based non-profit with a national reach providing air and ground transportation services to patients in financial need. Many of the patients they serve would not survive if they didn’t receive assistance with travel expenses to specialized long-distance healthcare providers.

Mercy Medical Angels delivers services through numerous programs, such as Angel Wings for Veterans which provides support to active duty military and veterans of all ages. Often patients are flown to healthcare centers by volunteer pilots through Angel Flight Mid-Atlantic.

The Challenge
In the past, Mercy Medical Angels managed multiple websites designed to meet specific patient needs. After the organization restructured, they focused their web presence primarily on three websites: MercyMedical.org, AngelWingsforVeterans.org and AngelFlightMidAtlantic.org. With overpowering graphics and unclear brand messaging, it was difficult for visitors to understand the purpose and mission of this organization and either donate or receive services. In fact, these poor-quality websites may have contributed to a decline in donations.

What We Did
Over several months, we met with Mercy Medical Angels to redefine their brand position, brand message, and craft a story script for consistently telling their wonderful story of service to needy patients.

Next, we designed the Mercy Medical website using the messaging discussed during discovery meeting and as a guide for the design. We also developed an SEO strategy so that patients could more easily find the organization online through accidental discovery.

Once the design was approved, we moved into identifying the best images for the website and started the build process. The two remaining websites, AngelWingsforVeterans.org and AngelFlightMidAtlantic.org, used the same design but tailored messaging and visuals for each website. The client provided the bulk of the written content for all the websites, which were launched as each one was completed.

The new 13-page website combines strong design, based on the company logo colors, and functionality combined with compelling graphics to build a memorable brand identity. The images illustrated the compassion Mercy Medical Angels is known to provide patients in financial need.

The homepage for all three website includes a static main image, their mission clearly displayed, quality images, a gallery of images with overlays for services, links to affiliate organizations and more. The inner pages include About, Services, Impact/Financials, and numerous donation buttons to spur donations plus a robust donation pages for individual and corporate donors.  AngelswingsForVeternas.org centers around services provided to veterans, active military and their families. AngelFlightMid-Atlantic.org is focused on resources for volunteer pilots and providing services to patients who need flights within 750 miles from home.

Within a few weeks of launching the Mercy Medical Angels website, donations were already on the rise, even during a national health crisis.

What We Achieved
With simplified and powerful graphics, the website visuals and content clearly tell the Mercy Medical Angels story and invites visitors to partner with them to provide services to patients needing long-distance healthcare. Graphics include simple photos of patients with names to help patients connect with the organization and to personalize the user experience for donors.

The Angel Wings for Veterans website depicts active military and veterans of all ages who need transportation to clinical care. Content was crafted to meet the information needs for this audience. Angel Flight Mid-Atlantic.org provides resources for volunteer pilots and patients who need shorter flights from the Mid-Atlantic area. Best SEO practices were built into all three websites.

Since the websites were recently launched, website traffic data isn’t available.
